Kenmore Repeals Some Tenant Protections

Posted By: Ryan Makinster Advocacy News,

In response to a lawsuit filed by the Washington Business Property Association (WBPA), which WMFHA financially supported, the City of Kenmore has repealed certain provisions of the tenant protections they passed in 2022.  Specifically, to comply with the settlement agreement they repealed their “just cause” laws which go beyond the state’s listed “just causes” and which also prohibited ending tenancy at lease termination without just cause.  Per the agreement, they have also repealed the “abusive and deceptive” practices section which contained ambiguous and legally questionable definitions of such practices.
