Washington Real Estate Coalition Meets to Discuss State Priorities
On Monday June 19, WMFHA GA staff joined fellow real estate industry advocates to discuss priorities for the upcoming legislative session. Hosted by the Washington Business Property Association, the annual WREC meeting is a chance for real estate and property rights advocates to discuss concerns and opportunities facing their respective industries.
Although the discussion covered many aspects of real estate and commercial property rights, the discussion was dominated by rent control and tenant protections legislation at the state level. Ryan Makinster, Director of Government Affairs, updated the coalition on the rent control and tenant protections bills still active in the legislature as well as the two bills that passed, which affected our industry, SB 5197 and HB 1074.
The group agreed with the need to remain vigilant on the issues of rent control and tenant protections. Although traditionally an annual meeting, the group agreed to more meetings to address the looming threats to our respective industries face and will be convening again in early fall.
