Spokane Rental Registry Update

Posted By: Carter Nelson Advocacy News,

As we shared last month, Spokane City Council voted on an ordinance proposing amendments to the rental registry ordinance. This ordinance was passed by council to force compliance and make the $15 registration fee more streamlined, exempting housing authorities and various subsidized programs (such as HCV and VA vouchers). The ordinance passed 5-2.

The changes to the ordinance also prohibit landlords from the following actions if they are not on the rental registry or don’t have a business license:

1.           Raising rent or monthly obligations;

2.           Getting a final judgment/writ evicting a tenant.

These changes go into effect on November 23, 2024. The City’s GIS team is finalizing a map of registered properties. This map should be available by the end of the week. We will be updating our members operating in Spokane as we receive this information from the City of Spokane.
