Lawsuit Filed Challenging Tacoma “Landlord Fairness Code”

Posted By: Ryan Makinster Advocacy News,

The Citizen’s Action Defense Fund (CADF) recently filed a lawsuit against the City of Tacoma challenging its so-called “Landlord Fairness Code” (“LFC”), the onerous and questionable laws adopted due to the Tacoma for All Initiative. According to the lawsuit, the initiative violated the state's "single subject" rule, was outside of the authority for the city of Tacoma to enact and certain provisions constitute a "taking" in violation of the state and U.S. constitution.

WMFHA staff have been working with CADF staff on the issue, with Jackson Maynard, Executive Director and lead counsel joining the WMFHA Government Affairs Committee with an overview of the case. If you are interested in learning more or how you can help support this effort, contact Ryan Makinster.
