Outstanding Success at Day on the Hill
Over 80 WMFHA members joined WMFHA staff, the Board of Directors, and our lobbyists for an exciting and fruitful day on the hill the hill in Olympia. Many first-timers and seasoned pros were able to meet their Representatives and Senators to educate them about our industry and discuss our concerns with rent control while also encouraging legislators to address the housing crisis by creating more opportunities for housing production.
The day began with a legislative briefing, highlighting current bills as well as our talking point for the meetings to follow. We also received a virtual welcome and advocacy overview from Greg Brown, National Apartment Association (NAA) Senior Vice President of Government Affairs.
In addition to meeting with their respective legislators and staff, many members also attend the Senate Housing Committee where HB 1074 was heard. The bill, sponsored by Representative My-Linh Thai, which makes the documentation/statement for security deposit deduction more prescriptive and specific also extends the time period in which a deposit must be fully returned or deductions documented from 21 to 30 days.
