Chili Cook-Off raises $25,000 for DAWN

The Washington Multi-Family Housing Association raises money for DAWN

Renton, WA – The Washington Multi-Family Housing Association (WMFHA) raised a record $25,026.06 for the Domestic Abuse Women’s Network (DAWN). The funds were proceeds from WMFHA’s 10th annual Chili Cook-Off charity event.

Over 500 people from the multifamily housing industry and the local community attended the Chili Cook-Off at the Tukwila Community Center. Over 25 participant companies, representing property management companies and industry supplier companies which service the apartment industry, served their best chili recipes to attendees and chili judges.

Families were treated to entertainment from the Seattle Seahawk’s Blue Thunder Drum Corp. and Seattle Seahawks team mascot Blitz, as well as visited with Seahawk’s SeaGals cheerleaders Hannah and Hope.

“This event allows WMFHA and its members to assist a charitable organization that has been near and dear to our hearts for many years.” stated Jim Wiard, Executive Director of WMFHA.

The Domestic Abuse Women's Network provides transitional housing and resources to women and children in the community who are victims of domestic abuse. Proceeds from the WMFHA Chili Cook-Off will help allow DAWN to provide programs and services to approximately 15,000 survivors and their children.

DAWN’s Executive Director, Peg Coleman, will accept the donation on behalf of DAWN at WMFHA’s Membership Luncheon in January.

“I am honored to accept these funds from the Washington Multi-Family Housing Association to assist DAWN’s efforts to provide safety, shelter, education and prevention to survivors of domestic violence in King County,” stated Ms. Coleman.
WMFHA has donated over $115,550 to DAWN from past Chili Cook-Off events.
